Why is Finland continually ranked as the happiest country in the world, and how does this influence their progressive educational system? Attendants to this session will learn about the social and cultural structure of Finland, and how their societal values and dedication to "happiness" are reflected in their public schools, educational ideology, and teacher training programs. The presentation will include actionable steps and activities that can be translated to our Natick classrooms, including outdoor experiences, innovative methods for structuring curriculum and lessons, and unique strategies for social-emotional learning. Attendants will also learn about the application process for the Fulbright program through the US Department of Education/State Department, the responsibilities of becoming a civilian diplomat, and other opportunities and tips for international exchange.
