NILS Bootcamp - Get Your Mind AND Body PUMPED! 6:30am -7:30am (High School Fitness Center) - Taught by Nicholas DiAntonio, program director and adult boot camp coach for Natick Summer Strength and Conditioning, this session will get you up and ready for the day. Incorporating movements with kettlebells, dumbbells, medicine balls, Echo Bikes, and even your own body, this session will incorporate aspects of High Intensity Interval Training to push you throughout the hour session. Beginning with a dynamic warm-up, the session will then progress into a thirty minute HIIT training session before ultimately concluding with a cool-down/core/abdominal session. For those members of our staff who took part in the summer boot camp workouts, this session will closely mirror the format of those sessions. The Locker Rooms will be available for showers after the conclusion of the session before the start of the day!

Starting in May 2025, standard paper testing will be discontinued for 28 AP Exams: these exams will move to the Bluebook digital testing application. Of the 28 digital exams in 2025, 16 will be fully digital and 12 will be hybrid digital. When students are taking assessment assignments (Progress Checks, Practice Exams, and teacher-created quizzes) in AP Classroom, the look, feel, and features will closely match that of Bluebook, the digital AP Exam application. This way students taking digital exams can familiarize themselves with the test-taking tools and features that will be available to them on test day. Puppetry has been a part of performance traditions for thousands of years. The ability to bring an inanimate object to life and tell a story strikes at the core of imagination. Puppetry invites us to work creatively and collaboratively. This workshop will focus on the bunraku style puppets from Japan and ask participants to work as teams to bring their puppets to life. This interactive work will allow for an exploration of how puppets can help students experience SEL in a unique and fun way.

In this session, high school educators will learn all there is to know about our Student Information System, PowerSchool. PowerSchool is not just a gradebook, nor does it just track attendance. There are many features in PowerSchool that can make life a lot easier for teachers! Running individual and group reports, collecting useful data about class performance, and navigating the various applications within PowerSchool (i.e. PowerTeacherPro, Records, Special Programs, etc.) are some of the many topics that will be covered during this session. With several new tweaks to PowerSchool being introduced this academic year, even veteran teachers can learn something new at this session!

It's hard to ignore that visual media is all around us...and with that comes a lot of questions. WHY are our students so addicted to their screens? HOW does visual media impact the way they learn? WHAT can I do to help my students in the age of visual media being, well, everywhere?
In this panel, we will learn some basics about what counts as visual media and how visual media has developed over the years. We will then expand our conversation around how those developments are impacting the social-emotional development of our students. Most importantly, we will end by talk about the role that WE hold as the adults in their lives and how we can help our students grow even amongst the noise that visual media adds to their world!
All are welcome to join this panel, regardless of position in the NPS district. Media affects ALL of us, so I am eager to host this conversation with all who are interested!

Outward Bound, Project Adventure and others teach SEL skills Experientially to students from schools all over the world. We can't always take a day or a week for a field trip but we can get some of the same benefits from our classrooms. I'll demo some of the experiential SEL activities working for me in my classroom. We will play a few ice breakers, try some activities that work well for choosing partners and see some ways experiential games can be adapted to teach content areas. Then we'll discuss any areas where someone wishes they had an activity and try to send folks home with activities you need. We can't all have acres of land to explore with our students but we can get them enjoying connecting and learning in some of the same ways. Come give it a try!

The Newton Wellesley Hospital Resilience Project Nurturing GROWTH: Building Blocks of Happiness, Innovation, Originality, and Wellbeing Building happiness and wellbeing is both a science and an art. Developing the “building blocks” that lead to growth, development, and improved mental wellness can be taught and learned. How can educators help our young people and themselves develop mental fitness to meet challenges and leverage opportunities? How do we create an environment at school and in the world where mental wellness, emotional and cognitive flexibility, and innovation can flourish? This workshop will present a backdrop of The Resilience Project’s GROWTH Model of Resilience and share tools that can help young people – and the adults who support them – to thrive.
In this hands-on New IEP Workshop, participants will collaborate with fellow special education teachers and district “New IEP Facilitators” to refine and standardize the New IEP writing process. This working session focuses on practical strategies for synthesizing evaluation summaries, aligning goals with services, and creating consistent user-friendly templates for all present-level pages. Having recently collaborated with consultant Allan Blume, this workshop offers a chance for all special educators and service providers to get on the same page and develop the “Natick way” for tackling the new IEP.
Wilson Access Program Workshop for Paras and Behavior Techs The paraprofessionals and behavior techs in the Wilson Access Program will have the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive workshop about supporting students in the Access Program. The goal of this workshop is to provide an in-depth examination of each student's unique needs and progress within the program. During this session, participants will have the opportunity to thoroughly review the behavior intervention plans for the students they work with. This review will ensure a deep understanding of the strategies outlined in the plans and allow for an assessment of their effectiveness in addressing the students' behavioral challenges. Additionally, we will delve into the individual academic data sheets for each student. Participants will receive training on any new instructional programs being implemented, as well as have the chance to clarify any questions or concerns they may have about the current academic interventions in place. By the end of this session, paraprofessionals and behavioral techs will have a strengthened grasp of the specific needs and progress of the students they support within the Wilson Access Program. This enhanced understanding will empower them to provide more effective and tailored support and foster the academic and behavioral growth of the students in the program.

We plan to go live in late December with our new websites so this introductory class is for anyone responsible for updating and maintaining our website content. In this course, we'll cover how to create and edit pages, how to create news stories, uploading and sizing of photos, and uploading documents. Puppetry has been a part of performance traditions for thousands of years. The ability to bring an inanimate object to life and tell a story strikes at the core of imagination. Puppetry invites us to work creatively and collaboratively. This workshop will focus on the bunraku style puppets from Japan and ask participants to work as teams to bring their puppets to life. This interactive work will allow for an exploration of how puppets can help students experience SEL in a unique and fun way.

During this workshop we will explore how student feedback and barriers prompted a revamp of the book club units. Utilizing the practices of universal design for learning, we will explore tech tools, specifically Seesaw and Canva, to boost student agency and engagement. Outcomes for this project are increased motivation and participation in novel units. Appropriate for grades 2-8 classroom teachers.

Elementary Special Educators will work collaboratively to examine our current service delivery model with the lens of increasing inclusion opportunities at the elementary level. This will be a kick off to this work as we continue this collaborative work as a group throughout the school year. All elementary special education teachers, coordinators and evaluation team leaders are encouraged to attend.
In this session, teachers will learn strategies to make their lessons and activities accessible to multilingual learners. We will provide ideas to engage multilingual learners at all levels in different content areas. Session leaders will provide examples of activities, modifications, and ideas for lessons. We will also work with teachers to modify assignments and assessments so students can access the content at their language level. Please bring assignments and/or assessments as there will be time to work during the session. Geared for Grades 5-8 Content Area teachers.
This session will be used to begin a 4 hour asynchronous video that demonstrates instructional strategies for teaching older elementary students to encode and decode, how to spell irregular words, and a syllable division method.
Why is Finland continually ranked as the happiest country in the world, and how does this influence their progressive educational system? Attendants to this session will learn about the social and cultural structure of Finland, and how their societal values and dedication to "happiness" are reflected in their public schools, educational ideology, and teacher training programs. As part of this session we will talk about how nature can naturally relieve stress. As part of this session users will take a walk along Dug Pond and admire its natural beauty. During this session we will talk about how using nature could also be used as a classroom tool to aid in SEL practices.
Starting with a focus on the breath and ending with a light meditation, this vinyasa yoga flow will rejuvenate both mind and body. Taught by an E-RYT (a registered yoga teacher with over 1000 hours of instruction), this session is right for beginners to masters and all in between. Fundamentals of Self-Defense Taught by Joe Guidice (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt) and Nicholas DiAntonio (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blue Belt), this 35-minute seminar will focus on the basics of self-defense. Beginning with a 5-10 minute warm-up on the mats, the focus will then shift to self-defense instruction centered on: 1) Creating space between you and your attacker, 2) Basic takedown mechanics should an altercation escalate, and finally 3) A few basic submissions to allow for you to subdue your attacker in order to provide a means of getting away from the situation. No experience is necessary, and this session will take place on the wrestling mats in the back quadrant of the high school gymnasium. Wear comfortable clothing - tee-shirts and gym shorts!

Restorative yoga- relax your mind and stretch your body in this gentle restorative yoga class. This class will relieve stress and relax your mood. No experience needed. Mats and props will be provided.
Intermediate/Advanced Knitting Class. Calling all knitters to bring your unfinished projects to work on. Bring your WIPs and knit along with us! There will be copies of patterns to choose from for your next project. If you are stuck we can solve the problem to get you back on track. We will knit through the two lunch blocks (session 4 & 5) and have lunch while knitting!
